Many cellular carriers assign email addresses to cellular phone numbers and support SMS or text messaging by email. In order to receive text messages, the recipient will need text messaging enabled on their cellular plan (most carriers enable it by default) and have a phone capable of receiving SMS text messages (most new phones support SMS messaging).
When configuring an alert, enter the "Send to Email" address that is assigned to the cellular phone number the alert is to be sent.

The major US cellular carriers limit message length to 160 characters, although some carriers will break apart larger messages into 160 character messages. Keep this in mind when creating alerts that will be sent via SMS.
